Over the past two weeks, the year 11 students have been completing their BTEC Home Cooking Skills exam (we call it our “Practical Fun Session” because exam sounds too sombre). This year, the students are independently preparing and cooking a “Burger to Order” using at least three fresh ingredients in the burger filling.
They selected a “guest” (a lucky member of staff) who completed a Burger Order form with their selections.
The burgers made were either falafel, halloumi or beef, and the fillings ranged from lettuce, grated carrot, cucumber, pickles, beetroot, avocado, tomatoes and mushrooms.
The students have performed exceptionally well this week, we are so very proud of them, and here is some of the feedback the students received from the staff they cooked for.
“A right tasty burger”
With cooking like that you could be the next Jamie Oliver. The burger you made was absolutely delicious with a well-balanced amount of ingredients and seasoning…”
“I just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing your food with me. I was so honoured you thought of me.
It looked so nice that other staff were quite jealous
So again thankyou and I would buy your burger in a restaurant any day.”
“Firstly I’d like to say thank you for choosing me to make a burger for.
The burger was delicious! Beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. I’m more than happy for you to cook me a burger anytime!” The falafel burger proved particularly popular so I have included the recipe for you to try at home.
