Following Jamie’s achievement of running his solo half marathon in April, he presented a cheque to Sue Holman, our Head teacher, for £500! In total, Jamie raised an incredible £1000 of which he donated the other half to IOW NHS Mental Health. Accompanying Sue and Jamie at the presentation were Heather Evans, head of mental health at St George’s school and Coral Leach, one of Jamie’s colleagues who advised and supported him through his training and on the day.
Jamie became the first former student to gain full time employment as a teaching assistant at the school.
“Sadly, during this pandemic there has not been much support for mental health, so I wanted to do my bit and raise some money.” said Jamie.
“Mental health, special education needs and social care is my absolute passion and has been for the last 15 years.”
“During this pandemic it has been a real struggle for so many people, including the vulnerable. Life is changing daily and so many of our favourite things have closed.”
Sue added, “We would like to say thank you to Jamie for his kind donation. It makes it extra special that a member of our own team has selflessly trained for months to complete this challenge for such an important cause.”
