On Monday, 11A went to visit the Garlic Farm in Newchurch.
We were met by Dan who works at the farm who took us into our own private room with a roaring wood fire, and lots of photos showing the history of the farm. Dan then expertly took the students through a garlic-planting workshop, telling us all about the health benefits of garlic, and how to get the most out of your own home grown garlic. The students were then able to plant their own garlic to take home.
Dan then took us on a walking tour of the Farm, showing us the hens, peacocks, and highland cattle and telling us about the farm’s rich history, environmental efforts and its aim to go completely organic.
I bought two lovely large bulbs of garlic, and our next food tech lesson is all about cooking with garlic – garlic bread, garlic pizza bread, garlic and cheese scones and garlic soup!
I, and the other staff, were so proud of the student’s behaviour and the mature way they engaged with Dan, especially the insightful questions they asked.
