What is IOW College Pathways?

Full time courses for students with learning difficulties. You can start college from 16 years old, and college can work with your school to make sure you are ready to go.

Things you can do on the Pathways Course:

  • Travel independently,
  • Go on work experience
  • Learn how to look after yourself.
  • Continue to study maths and English.

Our students succeed at an amazing pace and gain the skills and confidence to move on to interesting lives after College. Courses for 16-24 year olds are 3 days a week and courses for 25+ year olds are part time.

Our full time courses focus on:

  • Employment Skills
  • Independent Living Skills
  • Communication
  • Sensory/movement development

What will I learn?

  • Shopping and household management,
  • Cooking,
  • Healthy eating,
  • Using public transport
  • Looking after myself
  • Timekeeping
  • Following instructions
  • Working alone,
  • Problem solving
  • Team work

Where will I learn?

The new Pathways Building designed just for students who have additional needs. It is away from the main college.

Who will teach me?

All courses are planned around your individual learning needs. Every student has their own timetable.

You will be in a tutor group and work with a tutor and a team of learning support assistants who will support you at College.

What else does the course include?

You can join in with extra activities, such as the IW Walking Festival, the Mardi Gras and trips to the mainland.

What are the opportunities after Pathways?

Students can progress on to other Supported Learning or Community Engagement opportunities.
