Last Thursday we visited Newport Roman Villa. We saw the remains of the old Villa from 1750 years ago and learnt how it was discovered in the 1920s by people building garages.
Estelle gave us a tour of villa and told us how the Romans who owned this Villa would have been millionaires! We saw the old remain of the hot baths, which were Caldarium’s and looked at the tools and equipment they used to use, including the Strigils-used to clean the skin. We also saw some of the original mosaic flooring in the changing rooms.
We took part in a quiz where we had to find lots of items around the Villa, we then went into the work room where we took part in lots of different activities. Some of us had a go at making our own flour, some built arches and walls, whilst others made some mosaics.
Some of us even tried on Roman armour and pretended we were real life soldiers for the day!
