Students from Key Stages 4 and 5 joined 9A to welcome Izzie Tween from the Woodland Trust to St George’s.
Izzie is working on re-introducing beavers to the Isle of Wight, and 9A have been learning about animals and their adaptations for their Science evolution topic.
We learned how beavers can be hugely beneficial to their natural environment. Izzie passed around some water samples from a river populated by a beaver and a beaver free river to show how clean they make rivers. We also saw how insects, fish, birds and even trees are healthier when there are beavers around.
Students had plenty of thought provoking questions for Izzie after the talk. A big well done to Ruth in Sixth Form who gave a Capybara as a rodent example- great scientific knowledge!
