Dear Students, Families, Staff and Governors,
Last Thursday, one of our Sixth Formers went for an interview at Medina House. I am very pleased to announce that she has successfully gained a Teaching Assistant position at The Cottage. All staff here at St George’s, are incredibly proud of what she has achieved. Friday 17th March, is Macy’s last day as a student at St George’s School and we wish her the best of luck and hope that one day she will return to school as a member of staff. Well done Macy.
Staff have worked very hard at St George’s to ensure that the curriculum offered to students supports their learning to achieve aspirations. Our curriculum is functional, meaningful, vocational and progressive across the Key Stages to ensure all students have the opportunity to achieve at an appropriate level and fulfil their aspirations.
I would also like to share another piece of good news with you. On Monday, Sarah Tolfrey was successful in gaining the permanent position of Deputy Head. After a rigorous process of recruitment, including a very competitive panel of interviewees, she did incredibly well. I am very happy that Sarah will continue her role as Deputy Head, knowing that we now have a secure leadership structure moving forward as a school.
The Student Council have been very busy with interview panels, showing potential candidates for a range of jobs around and delivering their termly presentation to the Full Governing Body. Our students are excellent ambassadors for the school and never fail to impress staff and visitors. The students at St George’s really do make everything we do worthwhile and it is a real privilege to work with them.
Saturday 18th March is National Child Exploitation Day, we have attached some information posters, which have been distributed by the police – I hope you find them informative.
Poppy and I have tried to have a presence outside the school during drop off and pick up times. I think things are improving, please continue to let us know if issues are ongoing. Due to commitments elsewhere, I cannot always be outside, however, it certainly brightens my day when I can greet the students and chat with some of our parents.
I am attending a conference with Hampshire Special Heads at the end of next week. I will not be at school but I will ask Sarah to contribute to the Newsletter. Please let us know if there is anything you would like more information on and we will do our best to accommodate any requests.
