Dear Students, Families, Staff and Governors,

This week, we held internal interviews to replace Vic Mackie as Key Stage 3 Lead from September 2023. We are pleased to inform you that Bekki Mann, our PE and RSHE Lead, was successful and the Senior Leadership Team are very excited to welcome Bekki to her new leadership role. I am sure in due course Bekki will introduce herself to you via the newsletter.

We have been busy welcoming new students during their transition visits in preparation for them joining us in September 2023, it has been a pleasure to meet them and we look forward to them starting at St George’s. It is hard to believe our current Year 7’s have been here for nearly a year; the time has gone so quickly.

Unfortunately, we discovered some chewing gum that had been left on the playground and melted in the sun. One of our wonderful staff had to spend time cleaning it up to avoid it being walked through the school or damaging someone’s clothing. Please can we remind you that students and staff should not be bringing chewing gum into school.

Recently, a number of cars (taxi’s and family members) have been gathering outside school from as early as 2pm. This is a gentle reminder that we are unable to allow students to leave before 2.50pm. When the car park is blocked, it makes it very difficult for our minibuses to return students to school safely at the end of the day, when they have been accessing activities in the wider community. I understand that there is a lovely social element between some of you at the end of the day and I do not wish to see this stop but please be mindful about parking and also your own well-being in this intense heat.

I am sure some of you will be enjoying the festival this weekend, I hope it is not too hot and that you all manage to keep safe and have fun. I am off to London this weekend to see the Arctic Monkeys so I won’t be at the festival, but I am sure you will see other staff enjoying themselves and having a well-deserved weekend off.

Best wishes,

Steff Gleeson
