On a wet last day of term students from all key stages worked hard on horticulture projects around the school. Many students worked in Dragon, preparing the garden areas for the winter, sweeping and clearing paths of leaves and moss, strimming areas to remove nettles, harvesting willow and tying-in willow in the dome. Other students planted spring bulbs in planters and raised beds around school – almost 300 bulbs have been planted, trays of seeds were started off in the poly tunnel so we will have early vegetables in the New Year.
Some of the KS4 students removed rotten wooden planters from the back playground – it was heavy, dirty work but they made a real commitment to getting the job finished. Other students worked in the construction shed to make herb boxes which will be planted with seeds and will be for sale at the Christmas Fair. Some KS3 students took on the task of restarting the indoor planter inside the front entrance and they will be making sure it is kept watered and looked after. Finally some students worked on activities linked to our Woodland Trust points, we are now working towards our gold award. It was a great way to end our first half term.
