St George’s KS3 and KS4 students created pieces of abstract art based at The Quay Arts for the PEACH Exhibition. The exhibition was on the theme of ‘Connected’.
Our students looked at different abstract artists and created their own pieces in their various styles to represent different emotions. All of our KS3 and KS4 students had at least one piece of work included in the exhibition as we created tessellated balls made up of all the pieces relating to specific emotions.
In this way, the students were connected with their emotions to create their work and all their paintings of the same emotion were connected to make the balls. We also entered some of the original framed works as a separate entry and these took pride of place at the entrance of the exhibition. Both exhibits look fantastic and it is well worth the trip to see them in the gallery if you can get there before 27th April.

The annual ‘PEACH’ art exhibition, showcasing the creativity of our Island’s young people, will be displayed at the Quay Arts Centre from this weekend.
Head to the Clayden Gallery between 9am and 5pm from Saturday 30 March until Saturday 27 April. It is also FREE to attend.

Our statements about our pieces-
Our artwork consists of about a dozen balls made from the abstract paintings of our students on the theme of emotions. Each ball is made up of different students’ interpretations of the same emotion. There may be more smaller ones as well showing mixed emotions. The mobile will need to be assembled in situ. We can assist with this if necessary.

We would like you to appreciate our mobile of suspended faceted spheres created using students’ original abstract art. Students were asked to connect with their emotions and portray them visually.
The sixty-three Key Stage 3 and 4 students’ artworks are connected to represent a range of different emotions. Students studied the work of a variety of abstract artists such as Rothko, Pollock, Mondrian and Hoffman and considered their own personal feelings about which emotion would be most suitable for each artwork.
Working in mixed media, students chose their colours and mark making techniques carefully to create their own 2D artwork to represent each emotion.
We have connected all the students’ work together to display the emotions happy, sad, angry, calm, disgust, excited, scared, bored and proud as separate faceted spheres.
