Our 6th Form students have been volunteering at Newport Congregational Church. Here are some of their own accounts with how the volunteering has gone.
In Sixth Form, The View 2 have been doing some volunteering work at the Congregational Church in Newport. We have been helping the church for two months this included reorganising their Kindness cupboard, which is a walk-in cupboard full of canned food, hygienic products and different beverages. Helping in the kitchen where we would help prepare different dishes for people in need, we help prepared Ratatouille, Leek and Potato Soup and Tomato Soup.
Set up for Lego Club by taking boxes of Lego to one of their rooms called Community Hall, also we would keep the church spotless by hoovering all the floors, mopping the kitchen, cleaning out the fridges, wiping down tables and shelves. Most of us would go upstairs to where their giant food bank is supplied and reorganise their shelves.
Lastly, restocking their Community Fridge with sandwiches, pastries, wraps, fruit and vegetables, all donated by different companies like Grace’s Bakery, Morrisson’s, Waitrose and more!
On 4th July, we were offered to serve for an NHS Conference that was held in the church. For that day, we made fruit platters, and we served tea and coffee. All of us were engaging with our guests and putting smiles on their faces!
A week later, Steff had received a lovely email from one of the guests we served at the church.

On a Thursday morning the View 2 have been going to the Congregational church to do voluntary work. We have been doing things like preparing food for their meals in the evening setting up for the lego club doing the hoovering tidying the pantry. We did a very good job at serving at the NHS conference. We made fruit platters served them cake and biscuits and we also did the washing up and drying up.
We cleaned the kindness cupboard and set up tables and chairs with plates and cutlery. The NHS conference was very proud of us and was glad we was there. They said we did a good job at serving them and communicating with them. We put food in the community fridge like sandwiches baps which people from the community come in and take. The kindness cupboard has drinks and health products that people might not afford to buy so they are there if people need them.

Throughout this half term the view 2 have been going to the Congregational church on a Thursday morning also it’s a pantry/food bank.
The class every Thursday goes down and help with a couple of the jobs around there like cutting or chopping the vegetables up, setting up a Lego club for some young children and sorting out the kindness cupboard with putting things in the right place like food or hygiene items that other people can’t afford to buy in other shops.
On the 4th of July the view 2 went down to the church because some people from the council came down and we got some very nice fresh fruit cut up into small pieces and bits of delicious cake for the council to eat also there was tea and coffee for them to have.
Some of us took the platters of fruit around so everyone there got a couple of pieces of fruit and cake.
It was a great experience for all of us to go down to the church and volunteer to help with some of the jobs.

I just wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to the amazing young people from your school who supported our School Nursing and Health Visiting Workshop on the Isle of Wight last week.
They did an absolutely brilliant job preparing and serving the food – everything was so well presented and thoughtfully done. More than that, they were incredibly polite, friendly, and engaging throughout the event. I really enjoyed speaking with them about their lives and what they’re passionate about – it was a genuine highlight of the day.
They were a real credit to themselves and to your school. Please do pass on my/our thanks and appreciation to each of them – they made a lasting impression on everyone who attended.
