Work Experience

This week students across Sixth Form have attended their placements for the term. Work Experience is an incredible opportunity for students as they truly do get a taste of ‘The World of Work’.

This week Emily began her placement at ‘Little Brooke Farm’. Emily was shown how to ‘muck out’ the horses stable, groomed ‘Shane’ and watched a part of a physio session that the yard owner was holding.

We are extremely lucky to have a fantastic partnership with Quarr Abbey. Our students share their time between the farm shop and the tearoom. This week as you can see Jay served and cleared tables and Dylan and Isaac helped staff to fold napkins ready to pass to customers.

This week Mia visited the RSPCA and helped the team in the cattery. Mia helped by interacting with 8-week-old kittens, who have been at the centre since they were born. Mia was fantastic playing with the kittens – to help them trust new faces ready for rehoming in a few months.

This term we have some students who are new to Vectis Radio, to help build their confidence through radio! Every week a group of students head down to Vectis Radio and take part in the 4P’s project. Ian talks through each step of what will happen clearly and slowly so students know what they will be achieving. Each week students plan a podcast, choosing a theme of their choice. This week we had ‘Chef Courtney’ with her Pizza Burgers and George’s top five music hits!

This week Josh headed back to Milly Jolly Jacobs Farm! Josh helped Millie to herd the sheep into their pens, whilst checking each sheep had their ID ear tags. This allows all shepherds to check that they have the correct sheep in their fields ready for their yearly checks.
