Another couple of weeks have flown by and our students have been very busy, working hard at school and engaging in community activities in their spare time. It was particularly lovely to see Maggie involved in the grand opening of the new accessible play park in Godshill. What a wonderful resource within the island community and even more special to us as a school because of the close connection with Maggie. I know Kirsty has already organised a trip out there for her students and I am sure many more students will also get the opportunity to visit in due course. I am aware that some of our students participated in Remembrance Day ceremonies and we are very proud of them for this. If you are happy to share any photos, these would be lovely to see.
An ex-student Zac was also in the news this week for winning the British Butterfly title for the 3rd year in a row. We are very proud of all of our students, present and past, and welcome any news of their achievements outside of school as well as knowing all they achieve in school.
I must apologise to those of you who have requested leave of absence during term time for holidays or events that have passed already. Due to my recent absence from being on site, I have overlooked these but I will respond as soon as possible.
We have a few events in the coming weeks and I hope that many of you will attend Sporting Bears, our very own Christmas Production and also that our on-line Christmas Fayre will be well supported.
I have had the privilege of spending some time over at the Studio site since my return and am enjoying getting to know the students and staff who are based over at East Cowes. We have had one student visit our main site for a music session and I hope that we are in a position to do more sharing of facilities as the new site becomes embedded as part of St George’s. Another step towards this is having a Studio Student rep on our School Council, which is fantastic news.
On Friday 8th November, our Leadership Learning Partner completed a visit to ensure that our school retains strengths but also that we continue to improve. It was a positive visit to both sites, we were lucky enough to have an experienced Head from Hampshire join the visit and she was very complimentary about our school. I will share highlights and areas to improve in our next newsletter once the report has been received.
