Dear Students, Families, Staff and Governors
We have had a very busy few weeks, I am sure you are all aware of the proposed satellite provision as part of the St George’s offer to young people on the island. Public consultation is open until 19th April and I urge you to visit the IWC website or use this link Schools consultations (iow.gov.uk) and share any views you have. The first public meeting is today (Friday 15th) at St George’s. There is a second public session planned for 5th April, which is at the Studio School site in East Cowes 10-11.30. Please feel welcome to go along if you are interested in the project. As you can imagine there is a lot going on in the background but I want to reassure you that students currently at St George’s remain our priority.
Public Meetings
15 March 2024 from 2 pm – 4.30pm.
Located at St. Georges School, Watergate Road, Newport
5 April 2024 from 10am – 11.30am.
Located at the former Studio School site, Grange Road, East Cowes
Thank you to all of our families who have been able to attend parents meetings with class teachers to discuss student progress, as always the engagement from families has been outstanding. I know some families were unable to make the specified dates, so we have been able to arrange meetings either with myself or class teachers over the next couple of weeks at a time and date which is more convenient. Some of you have shown interest in the Young Inspectors programme – if you want more information please do make contact.
We have a transition event next Wednesday for our new Y7 intake in September and we are looking forward to welcoming new students and families to the site during the afternoon and evening. As you can imagine we are already planning for the next academic year and are busy working on classes and staffing in preparation. I am mindful that this time of year can be challenging for some of our students who are anticipating change and I will share information as soon as it is finalised. In the meantime students will remain with their current class and we will ensure transition opportunities are provided in the second half of the summer term. Many of our leavers are already involved in transition visits to the college or future destinations as leaving St George’s for many is a huge change.
Have a lovely weekend
