Dear Students, Families, Staff and Governors,
Another half term has flown by with lots going on at St George’s across both sites.
We have been supporting our leavers to attend their transition events at IW College,
Phoenix Centre, Way Forward and Care in the Garden to name a few. These sessions
have been generally successful and our students are building in confidence to attend their
next setting. This is a big step for students who have been with us for many years, but we
are very proud of the way they have embraced transition and demonstrated that they are
ready to leave school and move on to their next adventure.
We have also welcomed our new cohort of young people for September and it has been
fantastic seeing the new students coming up regularly from Medina House for their
transition visits. It was also lovely meeting some of our new families at our coffee morning
on 1st May.
All students will spend the day in their class for next year with the teacher and team
identified for September on 7th July.
As always, we have a number of events coming up after half term including Sports Day,
Cricket Festival, Leavers BBQ, Achievers Evening and the Leavers Prom. Information
and dates will be sent out for these events in due course.
Many of you will know that Sarah, our Deputy Head, is going on maternity leave at the
beginning of July. Kirsty Sedgwick and Keri Peckham will be covering the post between
them whilst also maintaining oversight of their current Key Stage / area. I am looking
forward to working closely with them both and further developing the Deputy Head role.
Unfortunately, we have had some school property and equipment damaged, not
accidentally, recently. We have worked with individuals and families to try and prevent
this however, it continues to happen. As a result, St George’s School will send invoices
home for damage in those cases where we know young people have purposefully
damaged equipment or property as the level of financial repair is not sustainable.
I hope that you all have a pleasant week off and that the weather is kind to us all. I look
forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 1st June.
